In Porto, water is treated with care and purpose. The city has embraced circular water management, giving treated wastewater a valuable second life. In collaboration with Pantarein Water, Aguas do Porto developed a system that’s both smart and sustainable.
At the heart of the treatment process is a membrane bioreactor (MBR), which ensures high-quality biological purification. This is followed by ultrafiltration, which gives the water the final polish it needs for safe reuse.
The installation now produces 700 m³ of treated water per day, reused as:
This circular model reduces dependence on drinking water and strengthens local water resilience. Pantarein Water sees this project as a benchmark for sustainable water reuse in urban environments.
