St-Feuillien Brewery invests in smart, sustainable water management

At the historic heart of Le Roeulx (BE), St-Feuillien has been brewing award-winning Belgian beers since 1873. Today, the brewery is writing a new chapter, one that balances tradition with sustainability. In partnership with Pantarein Water, St-Feuillien is implementing a scalable wastewater treatment system designed to grow with its production volume.

Modular water treatment, built for expansion

Following the relocation of its brewing operations to a modern production facility, St-Feuillien embraced the opportunity to rethink its water management strategy. The result? A modular, phased approach to wastewater treatment that adapts to production needs—today and tomorrow.

Phase 1 – Supporting 60,000 hectoliters/year

  • Rotary drum screen for primary filtration
  • Membrane bioreactor (MBR) with fine-bubble aeration for high-efficiency biological treatment
  • Sludge dewatering with a compact thickening drum

This setup delivers stable effluent quality while minimizing environmental impact.

Phase 2 – Scaling to 120,000 hectoliters (future)

  • Addition of a buffer tank to manage peak flows and safeguard biological stability

Phase 3 – Scaling to 200,000 hectoliters (future)

Brewing with purpose

St-Feuillien proves that sustainability and craftsmanship can go hand in hand. Through smart water treatment and long-term thinking, the brewery is turning every drop of water into an opportunity for efficiency, circularity, and environmental stewardship.
