A state-of-the-art water treatment plant for Carlsberg

In 2020, we built a new state-of-the-art water treatment plant for the Carlsberg brewery in Fredericia, Denmark. The installation purifies 750,000 cubic meters of wastewater per year, making it one of our largest projects. The plant won a prestigious award for most innovative water treatment of 2021.

The treatment plant works in several steps. Anaerobic treatment is followed by aerobic treatment in a membrane reactor with Blue Foot Membranes, the most compact and energy-efficient membranes available at the moment. The effluent is further purified by reverse osmosis and mineralization. After all these steps, the water reaches drinking water quality and can be used again in the production process.

Thanks to the new water treatment plant, Carlsberg can reuse 90% of its process water. The installation will also produce 1.5 million cubic meters of biogas per year for the production of green heat. For example, the Carlsberg brewery will save up to 10% extra energy. Pantarein Water monitors the water treatment to support the local utilities team through remote control and regular site visits.
