IOK Waste Management has played a pioneering role in sustainable materials management and waste treatment for the Kempen region (BE) for more than 25 years. With innovative methods and a strong focus on circular economy, IOK processes the household waste of more than 500,000 inhabitants. Pantarein Water is happy to contribute to this.
An important part of this waste treatment is the mechanical-biological separation plant, where residual waste is dried using air supply. This process produces condensate, which contains nitrogen and biodegradable fatty acids. To optimally manage and reuse this water flow, IOK partnered with Pantarein Water.
The cooperation between IOK and Pantarein Water began in 2009 with an audit of water flows. The next step was the installation of a membrane filtration system, which purifies wastewater to reusable quality.
Thanks to this innovative treatment system, the treated water can now be used for air cooling within the waste treatment process. This makes IOK a pioneer in water reuse, with, at the time, one of the first plants in Belgium to use wastewater circularly.
Besides the installation of the water treatment plant, Pantarein Water provides follow-up, whereby:
This cooperation shows how innovative water treatment can contribute to cost savings, more efficient waste management and a more sustainable Flanders.
